Benny would watch his father’s singing group rehearse at home during his early years. At times, Benny would join his father’s group and sing along, using a carrot as a microphone. His mother, Nancy Harley, noticed her son’s musical interest and purchased his first horn. Drawn to the trumpet's call, he immersed himself in the vibrant rhythms of Go-Go, a genre that pulsated with the city's energy.

In the early 1980s, Benny's destiny converged with that of "Rare Essence," a pioneering force in the burgeoning Go-Go movement.
